What Is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra means Yogic Sleep in Sanskrit.
It is a specific meditation technique that brings one to a state of conciousness between sleep and wakefulness.
15 minutes of yoga nidra is equal to 1 hour of deep sleep. It releases muscle tension, relaxes the mind, balances the endocrine system, improves body awareness, improves memory, and restores energy throughout the mind, spirit, and systems of the body.
If you have been to one of my yoga classes, yoga nidra is what is happening while you are lying in Savasana at the end of class, this period of guided relaxation. It is complete relaxation of the body while the mind ideally stays awake, observing the relaxed body.
Haven't experienced a yoga nidra before? I highly recommend checking out the app Insight Timer, where tens of thousands of quality audio guided meditations are available for free. You can choose from many different teachers' voices and lengths to find what suits you on that day.
